Our Story

Lucas was born on 2/22/1980 and committed suicide on 1/25/2018. He was loved as a husband, son, father, brother, grandson, co-worker, and friend. His loved ones are now on a journey in their new reality as Survivors.
In the midst of seeking to reconcile the "what ifs" and the "whys," the answers appear slowly, through conversations, research, and prayerful thought.
In the realization that his life had become hopeless and his freedom of choice elusive, there was a gradual understanding of the darkness that closed in on Lucas in the last months of his life.
Current and historic suicide research tells us that preventing self-death is possible, through intercessions that can be implemented, and hope can be restored. There are no "absolutes" however. Assessment driven interventions can sometimes alter the quicksand like ideation of one's suffering and contribute to a positive outcome, rather than the unimaginable.
Our Non-Profit Corporation is dedicated to supporting those adjusting to their new Survivor reality. This reality may involve life decisions, home repairs, yard work, vehicle issues, and financial challenges.
In addition, we hope to help remove barriers and assist in locating counseling and support services. Everyone deserves to heal, no matter the circumstance.
Our People Matter program also focuses on advancing suicide prevention efforts by being a resource for families and individuals impacted by substance abuse and mental health issues, addressing the emotional struggles that can lead to feelings of hopelessness.
We strive to ensure that no one feels like they are out of options.
You can support our mission in many ways: cash donations, contributing construction or home repair materials, yard maintenance equipment, and vehicles.
You can also participate with the gift of your time and any skills you may have in support of our mission.
The gratitude we feel at People Matter is beyond words.
We appreciate each of you and invite you to join us in honoring Lucas' life and legacy.
